FROM BOTTICELLI’S THE BIRTH OF VENUS

The women interpreting ‘From Botticelli's The Birth of Venus' express contemporary strength and surety by acknowledging their own sensuality. Botticelli’s original, or the classic and passive original Roman ideal, has no place today. These women are direct and forthright. They are confident in their individuality, as their own Goddess of Love, while speaking out and emerging on their terms.

Each image in this series is set within the same backplate photographed on the coast of Italy. With the billowing of printed silk acting as Botticelli’s golden tresses the challenge for each woman was to find herself stepping beyond the original, stating herself on her own terms, and expressing that within the one visual context. The challenge in post production was to then take that interpretation and accordingly temper the backplate to the most appropriate time of day, quality of atmosphere, and weather.
